To ensure that we are not releasing toxic chemicals into our communities water source, we take steps to ensure that toxic substances aren't leaking from our shop into drains or sewers.

Why is this good for your business?
This is not only good business - it will prevent costly cleanups and fines -- it's the law. Going the extra mile to let your customers know you're doing your part makes them happy.

Why is this good for the environment?
Reduces toxicity to environment

How to Act
  1. Seal off all floor drains, trenches, sumps and oil/water separators. (Or initially design facility in a manner that eliminates drains, trenches, sumps and sewer connections for shop and process floors.)
  2. Prevent all shop fluids from entering storm drains.
  3. Properly manage all waste fluids to ensure regulatory compliance. Have an overfill alarm system installed for spill prevention.
  4. Use dry cleanup method for floor cleaning; Example: Use a Zamboni self-contained floor cleaner, which vacuums excess water.
  5. Post warning signs (min. 5"x 8") above sink areas "Do Not Discharge Hazardous Wastes or Chemicals Down Any Work Sink or Drain". You can get a suitable sign here.
  6. Stencil all storm drains "No Dumping ... Flows to waterway" You can find a stencil to use here.
